Stranda Port Authority aims to make a significant contribution to the organisation of sustainable activities and development for commerce and the local population – helping generate yield on investments – based on our principle objective which is:

Stranda Hamnevesen KF (Port Authority) is a municipal organisation, founded on 6 October 2004. The objective of the organisation, laid down in its Articles of Association, is the planning, development and operation of public port facilities in the Stranda Port district. In addition, the organisation has municipal port authority pursuant to the Act relating to harbours and fairways no. 51 dated 8 June 1984.

A Port Director has been recruited to a full-time position as of 1 January 2008. This position was previously outsourced as an administrative service. All “maritime” services will be outsourced with effect from 2008. The company has one employee.

Stranda Port Authority’s brandname is Geirangerfjord: Cruise Port: Geiranger-Stranda-Hellesylt. We are currently the third largest cruise ship destination in Norway. In 2008, we had 168 port calls, with a provisional 171 port calls scheduled for cruise ships in 2009.

The West Norwegian Fjord landscape and the Geirangerfjord are now inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, attracting significant attention from all over the world. This, in addition to an active programme of sales and marketing for the area, has generated an increased demand from the international market for quality-assured facilities.

The Port Authority aims to meet this demand and has prepared plans for improvements to and development of the port district. These plans include a number of principal goals.

Geirangerfjord Cruise Port shall be the most attractive, safe and environmentally-friendly cruise port in Norway, and shall:

  • provide the best form of cooperation and infrastructure in the area.
  • work towards becoming a natural hub for logistics.
  • possess all expertise required and provide services in a professional manner.
  • ensure security – safety –environmental preservation.
  • quality assure all facilities and services.
  • generate high returns and acceptable fees.
  • organise outdoor activities all year round – based on the fjord, local culture, the mountains, World Heritage.
Stranda Port Authority also has goals for internal cooperation and collaboration with Stranda Municipality, in order to secure a sustainable development and added value within our industry, tourism and other local industries involved in port activities.
